What can one do to lessen the gap?

While living in Malawi, Africa I saw a lot of people that lived in mud huts and did not have shoes on their feet while I lived in a house with a gate. What can I do to help lessen the gap? Join the United Nations? Volunteer in Africa with the Red Cross? But what about the homeless people in Victoria City, living in the homeless Tent City camp? Can the communication model help? Does counseling help? Does education help? What about the power struggles between managers and employees?
